Keep the knee over the ankle in a lunge
For the base lunge, hold a light dumbbell or ball, step one foot out, and move straight down. Keep the knee over the ankle at roughly a 90-degree angle rather than letting it move into the position the instructor warns can hurt the knee joint.

- step out with your left foot
- go straight down
- make sure your ankle and your knee is in line
- Make sure you keep that 90 degree angle
