Prioritize face angle in putter fitting over loft
The instructor says putter fitting centers on face angle because with only one or two degrees of loft, an open or closed face deflects the ball offline very easily, unlike higher-lofted clubs. They say fitting is really about mapping the putter's rate of rotation back to square at impact, illustrating that on a 12-foot putt, an allowance of about one degree open or closed is the entire margin before the ball veers off the hole.
