Pick a hybrid over a driving iron to escape rough

The instructor contrasts a driving iron with a hybrid. He describes a driving iron as a larger, more forgiving iron with a bit more pop off the face but the same iron feel, and says its drawback is that it is harder to work out of the rough and a little harder out of the fairway than a hybrid. He says the hybrid is the club you can hack out of the rough when you need to, so that without a 3-hybrid in the bag you would otherwise have to back down to a seven iron to escape deep rough.
