Drill foot-pressure rotation on an alignment rod

A drill to feel foot pressure driving rotation: stand on an alignment rod or golf club shaft set through the arches of your feet, on firm ground, so you can feel pressure move to the heels and toes. From a strong posture, load the balls of the feet, then as you wind up shift pressure to the heel of the trailing foot and the ball of the leading foot; through the swing shift from the ball of the foot to the heel to push up and release the body. The instructor says this lets you feel rotation driven by the feet and calls it a huge power source.

Try it

  1. set an alignment rod down on the ground or a golf club shaft that would work
  2. stand on that alignment rod so that it's basically through the arches of your feet
  3. as you get into a strong posture feel a little pressure move to the balls of the feet so now you'll feel loaded
  4. shift the pressure to the heel of your trailing foot and the ball of your leading foot
  5. on the way through I shift pressure from the ball of this foot to the heel of that foot

Why this context matters

An alignment rod or club shaft laid under the arches gives feedback on where foot pressure sits.
