Keep putter launch about 1.5 degrees, place ball late
Asked the ideal launch for a putt, the instructor says a degree and a half or below is fine but you don't want zero, because a ball resting on the green settles and compresses into the grass over time and can catch the lip and fumble off line. To counter this he sets his ball down at the latest possible moment so there is less deflection from the grass and his launch stays consistent.
