Check your swing speed before carrying a 3 wood
The instructor says a 14.5-degree 3 wood needs quite a bit of swing speed, around 85 mph or more, to get real benefit and to get the ball off the ground. He notes that hitting your 3 wood further than your driver, or your 5 wood further than your 3 wood, points to a swing-speed issue. Golfers without that speed are advised to carry a 5 wood, 4 wood, or 3 hybrid instead, which are easier to hit.
