Shape into the fairway to widen your landing area

Off the tee on a 40-yard-wide fairway, aiming down the middle and hoping to hit it straight or miss either way effectively leaves you only half the fairway. Committing to one shape lets you start the ball on the edge of the fairway and work it in, using around 35 yards of it and nearly doubling your landing space, so you don't have to be as exact.
