Build a homemade launch monitor to dial in putter loft
The speaker demonstrates a DIY "homemade launch monitor" to check a putter's loft and roll on a home practice green. Before hitting, lay a line on the green perpendicular to the target, place two balls next to it, then add second and third reference lines a couple of ball-widths out, and film the putt in slow motion with the lens aligned to the ball. Watching when the logo starts rotating tells you the loft: on the correct loft the ball is rolling by the second line (two balls away) and down on the turf by the third. He adjusts that target for slick greens (nearer the second line) versus Bermuda or Poana greens (nearer the third).

- take a marker, take something you can use as a ruler, and place a line on the green, perpendicular to our intended target
- two golf balls. You simply pop them down next to that line
- Simply use your rule edge to put another line in the green. Then one golf ball goes down, and a third line marks on the green area
- slow motion goes onto the camera, and we simply align that lens with the golf ball
- I want the golf ball to be rotating as close as it can be to that second line that is two golf balls away
