Why a 3-wood can outdrive your driver

The speaker explains why a 3-wood can sometimes travel farther than the driver. The driver and 3-wood weigh about the same, but the driver's bigger head feels lighter and emptier and it sits on a tee, so it has to be hit with an upper blow after the low point. You can't simply let the heavier head fall to create distance the way you can with a 3-wood off the ground; the driver's distance comes from a good throwing (release) technique. If you pull instead of throw, the distance comes out very short.
