Judge game improvement irons by descent, peak height

The instructor says the big things he looks at in game improvement irons are descent angle and peak height. A seven iron descending around 46 and a half degrees is very playable, while some stronger-lofted game improvement irons drop below 45 degrees and come in quite hot; those will be long for the golfer but not very playable on the golf course.
