Line the ball off the heel on cut pitches
On a cut pitch where you swing across the ball (out-to-in and a bit steep), the instructor has the player set the ball toward the heel rather than the toe. Most golfers hit their pitches out of the toe, but because you draw the blade across the ball on a cut, you can catch it dead out of the toe, so lining it up on the heel gives the strike.
