Read local stiffness by diameter, not a tip label
The instructor explains that local shaft stiffness comes from diameter: the widest part, the butt section, is the stiffest, and the narrowest part, the tip, is the softest, regardless of whether a company markets that tip as relatively soft or stiff. The instructor adds that trimming the tip removes soft material so the shaft plays stiffer, while trimming from the butt removes stiff material so the shaft plays softer.
