Aim at a spot a few feet in front of the ball
Build a repeatable aiming routine by standing behind the ball and picking a spot to aim at that is only a few feet in front of the ball and in line to the target, such as a blade of grass or bit of mud. This is what Jack Nicklaus did. Set the clubface down pointing at that spot target, then build the stance with your feet close together.
