Groove your takeaway with the alignment stick fence drill

Saguto Golf coach describes an alignment-stick drill for the takeaway. Place one alignment stick in the ground at about a 45 degree angle and make it secure, then stand about two to three feet away with your hip roughly in line with the tip of the stick and a couple feet to the left in front of it. As you take the club back, keep the club from touching the stick - he suggests imagining it has an electric fence - since a player who rolls the hands will hit it. The idea is to prevent rolling and keep the club out in front of the body.

Try it

  1. Take one alignment stick and place it at about a 45 degree angle on the ground.
  2. Make sure it's nice and secure.
  3. You're going to be about two to three feet, where your hip is in line with the tip of the alignment stick, and maybe a couple feet to the left in front of it.
  4. As you take the club back, don't touch the alignment stick - pretend it's got an electric fence.
