Three-ball drill to feel the release

Hanson demonstrates a drill using three teed-up golf balls to train the release feel. Address a ball and move through; as the right arm reaches about parallel to the ground the wrists work like the end of a whip rather than flipping, building angles. Start in position, come back and give it a hit, then make a practice swing to feel what you just did before moving to the next ball. Whether you hit them clean, thin, or fat is not important — the point is what the feel is doing.

Try it

  1. Tee up three golf balls.
  2. Move through the golf ball.
  3. When your right arm is about parallel to the ground, work the wrists like the end of a whip — not flipping it — to build up your angles.
  4. Start in this position, come back, give it a hit, then do a practice swing.
  5. Feel what you just did, then move into the next ball.
  6. If you don't hit them clean or a bit thin or a little bit fat, it's not important — it's more about what the feel is doing.
