Bounce off a plastic lid to feel the chip strike
The instructor demonstrates a chipping drill using the lid of a plastic container (he says he usually uses a clipboard). With the hands set in the middle the club's bounce should bang off the lid and drop, so you can see the leading edge falling off the ground; if the hands press forward the blade digs in first and could break the lid. The point is to feel the bounce contacting the surface rather than the blade.
