Work the club inside in the backswing
The instructor explains that ideally you want the club to move to the inside going back rather than straight back or 'on the plane.' He reasons that the body rotates roughly 50 degrees going back but has less rotation coming down, so the club's position relative to the body is more inside on the backswing than on the way down. He notes his student tends to take it outside, which makes him drop it too much from the inside.
