Keep the arc width from hands to chest consistent

The arc is the width from your hands to your chest, and the goal is to keep that width consistent throughout the swing so you return to the ball on plane, with control of the club face and as much speed as possible. If the arc gets narrower at the top, the downswing becomes inconsistent and off plane, the club face gets out of control, and you can hit it thin, fat, left, or right.

Why this context matters

Given as a con of bending the lead arm, which narrows the arc.
