Force conservative targets with a putter-only rule
The speaker describes a rule he used with players: for any shot from inside 125 yards, the next shot had to be played with a putter, so if they missed the green into a bunker they had to putt from there until the ball was holed. Facing that constraint, players started aiming at the middle of the green and taking a safe score instead of making brain dead bogeys.
