Cut across into-the-grain chips

For grass growing into the shot, the instructor says the ball needs a little more speed because the grain eats speed. He prefers toe down with more speed, then cuts across the grass with an open face because that grain wants to kick the ball right.

Try it

  1. Go toe down with a little bit more speed.
  2. Open it there, a little wider.
  3. Go a little more out to in.
  4. Play a bit more of a fade.

Why this context matters

The ball is in rough with grass growing across or against the intended strike.
