Play the ball under your sternum for ball-first contact

The coach says striking down on the ball comes from two setup things: width of stance and having the ball directly underneath the top of your pendulum, which he calls your sternum. He advises keeping the ball out of the back half of the stance except on specialty shots — going under a tree or a greenside bump-and-run — because a ball played too far back makes the swing path too in-to-out and forces you to back up and flip the club to get it online.
