Set up a winter pitch: ball back, shaft lean, wrist hinge

For pitching off wet lies, set up to strike ball-first. Play the ball back, just inside your right heel, with more shaft lean and choking down the grip; keep your left shoulder over your foot for a stable pivot and avoid moving side to side. Add a little more wrist hinge without opening the face, lead with the hands, and hit it slightly quicker with a bit more commitment.

Try it

  1. Play the ball position a little bit further back than normal, just inside your right heel, with a little bit more shaft lean and down the grip
  2. Make sure your left shoulder is over your foot so you get a nice pivot line, and don't move side to side
  3. Add in a little bit more wrist hinge and don't allow the face to open
  4. Make sure you're leading with the hands, a little bit of chest turn, and just hit it a tiny bit quicker
