Pete Cowan's pen-circle drill for swing path

The instructor teaches a drill for grooving the swing arc and trail-arm motion. Hold any club at the shaft and set the shaft at the low point under your lead armpit so it is completely straight, which is your impact and return position with the trail arm pushed forward. Then imagine holding a pen and drawing a circle at a 45-degree angle.

Try it

  1. Grab any club in your bag and hold it at the shaft
  2. Put the shaft where the low point is, under your lead armpit, so it's completely straight
  3. Notice your trail arm pushed forward — this is your impact, where you return to
  4. Imagine you're holding a pen and draw the circle at a 45 degree angle

Why this context matters

He frames slicers as failing to draw the circle and hookers as drawing it too far inside.
