Widen stance and move ball forward to hit it higher

To make a shot climb higher — for example a seven iron he wants to lift up and over trees whose normal flight would be mid-tree — the coach widens his stance a little and moves the ball a little more forward, which he says elevates the flight over the trees. He applies the same adjustment when he needs the ball to land softer, such as getting over a bunker: go a little wider and move the ball a little forward.
