Choose lie, landing spot, bounce, then loft
The instructor lays out his short-game shot-selection routine: look at the lie, decide where you want to land the ball and consider that landing spot, then picture what the first bounce will look like. Only after that do you choose which loft and which release to use. The point is to build and paint the picture of the shot in your mind before you hit it.
