Connection is width, not pinning the arm to your side
The speaker defines width as the distance between the center of the body and the hands, and equates connection with width. He warns that pinning the trail arm alongside the body decreases width and therefore decreases connection; with the arms wrapped behind the body the swing gets narrow and forces a catch-up move. He frames connection as keeping the hands in front of the center of the body.
