Slow-motion drill to square the face while lagging
For golfers trying to create lag, Craig Hanson prescribes a slow-motion drill: coming down slowly, try to get a bigger angle and see if you can square the clubface up. As a checkpoint, when the club is parallel to the ground you should see about three fingers on the left hand.
