Push-pull the trail arm to 90 degrees at the top
The third key is a push-pull move: keep pushing the trail palm against the lead thumb knuckle (down, out and away) while pulling up and back at the trail shoulder with the trail index finger. This takes the trail arm from its locked position and creates a bend so that at the top of the swing there is a 90 degree angle between elbow and shoulder, which is the full wind-up you want.
