Let gravity fall through thick rough, not lift it out
For a chip out of the rough, the instructor keeps the same chip setup (ball back in stance, hands forward, using his 56) and just pops the ball out and lets it release. The key feel is that he is not driving the handle forward and not trying to lift the ball out - he lets gravity fall the club onto the ball. He suggests a one-handed practice exercise to get the sensation.
