Play a putt-chip for quick downhill fringe shots
For a quick, downhill shot with a short line, the instructor plays a 'putt-chip': stand very close, set the toe down (heel off the ground), use a reverse-overlap putting grip, keep the handle high, play the ball off your right toe, and make a putting stroke. The ball comes out with spin and feeds out slowly like a putt, checking on the down slope.
