Point the club a yard outside the ball at the top

Craig Hanson describes a backswing checkpoint: at the top of the swing, try to get the end of the club (or a training aid on it) to point about one yard or one meter outside the ball. He says that from this position the head stays really still and centered and you get a good shoulder plane moving back.
