Hitting it straight doubles your fairway margin
Aiming down the middle of a roughly 30-yard-wide fairway, the instructor points out that a straight ball that pushes or pulls 10 yards either way still finds the fairway, while a player who hits a draw only has the left half, about 15 yards, to work with and must aim to the right side. So hitting it straight gives you twice the chance of hitting the fairway compared with a player who curves it as a fade or draw.
