Throw a ball a yard in front to time your release
Peter Cowan's throwing drill for timing the release. Throwing a ball straight down keeps the shoulders too level and produces a high shot. Instead, throw a ball (golf or tennis ball) about a yard out in front of the golf ball; this gives the feeling of when to straighten and release, and done right the ball flies straight.

- Throw a ball, golf ball or tennis ball, about a yard out in front of the golf ball, not straight down.
- Take a golf ball up and throw it and see where it lands; it should go straight.
