Keep the hands in, club out in the takeaway
A common fault the coach describes: when a golfer hears 'keep the club outside,' the hands start to go outside with it and lift out. His cue is to keep the hands in while the club stays outside, with the hands turned back by the body, and he uses the alignment rod as a visual so the club can stay outside longer while the hands stay inside. Lifting the hands out detaches them from the body and decreases the leverage, so you get no hinge.
