Stay on plane in the takeaway, never get under it

The instructor explains keeping the club on plane in the takeaway: at address you can picture a line drawn up through the shaft, and you want the club head to travel along that plane up to about halfway back. She says it is better to be slightly above the plane than under it, because once the club gets under it you barely have control over the club face.
