Chip with less loft in wet winter conditions

Around the green in soft, wet winter conditions, chip with less loft - a 7, 8 or 9 iron instead of a lofted wedge. Less loft shallows your angle of attack so the club brushes the turf for a safer contact, and the narrower sole of a mid or short iron makes it easier to strike cleanly. Ball speed goes up and spin goes down, so the ball runs out and gets through the very slow wet green far more easily.

Why this context matters

Demonstrated chipping to a back pin on soaking-wet UK winter turf; a lofted 56 kept sticking 12-15 feet short.
