Try the shoulder-to-wall rotation test

Craig Hanson demonstrates a home test and drill: get a golf club and hold the full grip just on the outside of your trail shoulder, put on a cap and set the cap against a wall in a realistic address position, then move through as if hitting a ball while trying to keep the grip from touching the wall. He says if you don't touch the wall you're doing really well, the more you rotate the more it takes the strain off your back, and the lower you touch the wall the better while the higher you touch the worse.

Try it

  1. get a golf club, whatever club it is
  2. get the full grip just on the outside of this trail shoulder
  3. pop on a cap, get your cap against the wall
  4. set yourself up in a realistic position around about ready to hit a golf ball
  5. when you move through, you're going to get this grip not to touch the wall

Why this context matters

Framed as both a flexibility test and a drill you can repeat over time to track range of motion.
