Float a soft landing shot by bottoming out before the ball
Position the ball just inside the left heel, use a slightly wider stance, and push the weight forward through that foot. Allow the right shoulder to sit slightly lower so the club bottoms out just before the ball, then let the club's bounce slide underneath it. This indirect contact slows the ball down.

Requires firm enough ground to support the sole of the club; not for very soft lies.
