Don't fire the hips early, slide them to the target
To create power and a better downswing, the coach says slow the hips rather than firing them at the start of the downswing. Train the hips to move toward the target first: feel like you are pushing and sliding the hips laterally along the target line, and don't fire (turn) them until you have slid far enough into the downswing, then fire. He shoves an alignment stick through the belt loops to match the hip line with the foot line.
