Escape greenside bunkers with a wide-stance thump

For greenside bunker shots, the speaker sets up with a real wide stance to shell out the arc, the ball in the middle of the stance, and about 70% of the weight on the lead side. The handle sits to the inside of the lead leg while the face and body alignment are open; every degree you open the body you open the face the same amount, so the face stays square to the target line. From there he says to push, pull and twist, thump the trailing edge, and, starting with a half swing, get aggressive and punch down about three inches behind the ball.

Try it

  1. get a real wide stance that helps to shell out the arc
  2. Play the ball in the middle of your stance
  3. Put your weight 70 on your lead side
  4. have the handle to the inside of your left leg, but have the face and the alignment of the body accordingly open
  5. now just push, pull and twist and then just thump the trailing edge
  6. start off taking like a half swing and really get aggressive and punch down to three inches behind the ball
