Rest your arms on top of your chest, elbows close

To start the swing on a consistent circle, the instructor's first setup cue is to rest your arms on top of your chest rather than out to the side. From there your shoulders and body can drive a coordinated move away. Practically: put the arms up in the air, lower them onto the top of your chest, and keep your elbows fairly close together.
