Fix over-the-top by setting up with weight forward
Saguto recounts fixing a student's long-standing over-the-top problem by changing only the setup: get the lead arm straight, set the weight forward, then keep that setup and don't change it during the swing. He says the student's downswing then came in shallow and the over-the-top move was gone. His claim is that a steep, over-the-top downswing can be addressed from the setup rather than by trying to reroute the transition.
