Lower handicaps: invest in a good backswing

The speaker's view is that the better a golfer you are, the less important the backswing becomes, whereas the lower your skill level, the more important it is. A high-level player can be put in almost any backswing position and still make the adjustments to hit a good shot on the way down; a developing golfer can't make those mid-downswing corrections yet, so the backswing has to prime them and get them ready for a good strike.

Why this context matters

Counters the assumption that developing golfers can save a poor backswing on the way down like tour players do.
