Identify wedges by their typical lofts

A gap wedge is usually around 52 degrees, a sand wedge around 56 degrees, and a lob wedge around 60 degrees, though some 58-degree wedges are also considered lob wedges. A gap wedge may also be labeled as an approach wedge, with G, A, or the loft number used on the club.
