Set up a chip: narrow stance, forward weight, ball middle
For consistent chip contact, the instructor describes a setup: a very narrow stance with about one fist between the big toes, gripping down on the club, opening the body, and playing the ball in the middle of the stance or slightly left of center. She has the golfer put about 55-60% of the weight on the lead foot and maintain it through the backswing, which she says creates a steeper angle into the ball for cleaner, more consistent contact and helps the club bottom out without using the hands, reducing thin and fat shots.
