Chip long-to-short: two-thirds back to a third through
For the chip-and-run, the instructor wants the backswing longer than the follow-through, about two-thirds to a third. He observes the best chippers are all long-to-short, while golfers who struggle tend to go short-to-long (short back, then a long through-swing). It should be a smooth tempo: nip the ball and put the brakes on through the strike.
