To move a golfer off a strong lead-hand grip, the instructor uses visible knuckle count as the checkpoint: instead of seeing three or four knuckles at address, the golfer looks down and sees about one or two. He describes this as silencing the left hand and getting out of a strong grip into a neutral grip.
