Widen your stance to the slope on downhill chips

On a downhill chip the instructor adapts the setup to the slope: stand as wide as needed to get level with the slope, play the ball further back, and add forward shaft lean. From there use a little wrist hinge to get the club up, and crucially play a 'release one' front-hip release while keeping the leading edge down; any added release bottoms out behind the ball.

Try it

  1. i stand as wide as i feel i need to to be able to get level with the slope
  2. play the ball sort of further back on the down slope
  3. get a bit of forward sharp leaning there
  4. there's a little bit of wrist hinge because i want my club to come up in the air a bit
  5. it's definitely a release one it's a front hip release
  6. you've got to keep the leading edge down
