Play wet greenside rough with the toe and a high handle

Keep the shaft up fairly steep in the backswing but shallow the strike so you don't dig. Open the club and go toe-down with a very high handle, aiming left so the shaft works across the ball and the path goes left. Swing out and across with a partial release rather than steeply down, brushing the turf so the club won't get stuck.

Try it

  1. Open the club up and go toe down with a very high handle, aim left
  2. Get the shaft up nice and high in the backswing but swing out in front and across the ball
  3. Don't hit down so aggressively - just brush it a little bit more so it won't dig in

Why this context matters

Played with a 60-degree wedge from thick wet rough that swallowed the club on the practice swing.
