Work the club up one-to-five o'clock in the backswing
Rather than swinging around the body, work the arms and club up. Cock the wrists and work the club up with some forearm rotation in both arms, tracing a clock face from one o'clock up to five o'clock. This creates a motion spiralling up and down to the ball so you are more likely to strike down and through, versus working around the ball and lunging back to it. Pair it with looking up to help the pivot and a feeling of chopping down to the ball.

Used with a student, Tom, who moved off the ball and had too much to recover in the downswing.
